Heads turned as she raced down the corridor. Her various papers and books trailing wildly behind her. She did not care. The world was in danger.
She shoved a group of bystanders away as she turned the corner, and raced into his chambers.
She broke through the door,
and stared in horror. Blood was splattered throughout the room, along with broken furniture and shards of glass. His bed was reduced to mere splinters. A single black feather rested on his night table, strangely the only untouched object in the room. Then she knew.

They were already inside.
